Content is the New Open Sign: Are You Open for Business?
In today’s digital age, the way we do business has fundamentally shifted. Gone are the days when your physical storefront was the only way to attract customers. Now, your online presence—your content—is the new “open” sign. But what does that mean exactly?

Think about it: when you walk or drive down the street, you see businesses with their “open” or “closed” signs displayed. That’s exactly what it’s like when you post content about your business—or when you don’t. Every piece of content you share is like flipping your sign to “open,” inviting the world to engage with you. So, my question to you is: Are you open or not?
The beauty of social media is that you’re no longer limited to your local economy. You’re doing business with the world. Yes, you can run ads, but they cost money. You can knock on doors, but that’s exhausting. You can make cold calls, but let’s be honest—no one likes being hung up on. So, what’s the solution?

Content.
By creating engaging, targeted content, you can do business one-to-many instead of one-to-one. You might be thinking, “But I don’t have a lot of followers!” So what? We live in the greatest time in history, where you’re not bound by the limitations of the past. With social media, you can reach people you’d never meet in person. Your content is your gateway to a global audience.
But how do you create content that actually works? Here are four simple steps to get started:

1. Think About Your Dream Client or Customer Problem
We all have problems, and we’re all searching for solutions. Your dream client is no different. The key is to create content that addresses their pain points. Don’t create content you want to make—create content they need. You are the solution to someone’s problem.

2. Frame Content Around That Problem with a Solution
Once you’ve identified the problem, frame your content around it. Use your words (speaking) or your camera (shooting) to show that you’ve been where they are and that you have the solution. Your goal is to help them see the problem in a new light and realize that it doesn’t have to be a problem anymore.

3. Create a Point From That Solution
Every piece of content should have a clear point. What do you want your audience to take away? What’s the one thing you want them to remember? A great way to do this is to start with the phrase, “I believe that…” For example, “I believe that anyone can grow their business with the right content strategy.” This becomes your anchor and keeps your content focused.

4. Record and Post the Video
I know what you’re thinking: “It’s not that simple!” But it actually is. The only way to get better at creating content is to start creating content. Don’t overthink it—just hit record, share your message, and post it. The more you do it, the more confident you’ll become.
Yes, there’s more to it, but these four steps are all you need to get started. The most important thing is to take action. Your content is your “open” sign, and the world is waiting to do business with you.
